What is Blockchain? If you're interested in Bitcoin or alt coins, otherwise known as cryptocurrencies, it is good to begin with what blockchain technology actually is about. For starters, a blockchain is a growing list of records, also known as a ledger, called blocks, that are linked together using cryptography. Each recorded block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data. By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of this data because once a transaction is recorded to the block the data in any previously recorded block cannot be altered without alteration of all subsequent blocks. With all the blocks being verified and recorded between several data nodes around the world, it makes this 'ledger' very secure.
